What You Need First
Before you can start finding the right clients, you need a few things. Namely, you need to be taken seriously. That takes a bit of prep work no matter your experience level. The good news is you can get set up without spending a lot of money or time.
What you need to start getting clients as a freelancer:
- Self-hosted website
- Examples/portfolio
- References (optional, but helpful)
- Social media profiles optimized for your niche and specialty
- A niche!
From there, it’s time to find the right clients as a freelancer.
Where to Find Clients Currently Hiring?
First, you can look in all the likely places to find clients who are currently hiring. These are businesses or entrepreneurs who already know they need a freelancer. They’re actively searching, and these are the easiest gigs to find. However, note that the competition can be fierce, even for experienced freelancers.
Where to find clients hiring freelancers right now:
- Upwork
- Job sites (Indeed, etc)
- Industry boards (Problogger for writers, etc)
How to Find Clients to Cold Pitch
Last but not least, we talk about where to find clients to cold pitch. This means these clients might not be actively searching for a freelancer, but they still might be open to your services. As always, be sure to do your research.
